When ordering dog health supplements, what do you look for? Do you want to improve general health? Cure a specific problem? How do you know your canine will benefit?
There are a few general supplements that help all dogs and there are also individual needs that vary as much as dog personalities.
What I mean is, to help a dog naturally, one size does not fit all.
We’ve gotten off track by the modern medicine application of giving pills
for conditions which hide the symptoms instead of cure the problem. The results are quicker but the problem still lurks inside.
And symptoms are treated instead of the cause. Unfortunately, different causes can have the same symptoms. Let's use hot spots as an example.
Canine skin conditions are far too common. Here are the five top reasons for that itchy, scratchy and overly licked skin.
Poor quality dog foods - The
market is inundated with them. I think the top sellers worldwide are in fact the
most toxic but they have great commercials and we tend to follow what others
do. It's called social proof. (Which isn't follow the leader but follow the follower.)
Beef or chicken - Which can be misleading. Many of my readers contact me saying this is the problem but it may actually be low quality types of beef or chicken in the dog food they buy.
Vaccines - Vaccines tend to cause more problems than
they prevent. Even if you believe in vaccinating, you have to admit the aluminum and thimerosal (from mercury) are terribly dangerous.
Dog Flea Medicine - Flea, tick and heartworm meds are all poisons and build up in the body.
Genetics - Last but not least, it could be genetic (to a point) by inheriting any of the above problems.
Now, with all that being said, there are some general dog health supplements I recommend that all dogs should have at least periodically. I'll explain why they are a wise investment for dog health and invite you to purchase them.
Note I would never ask you to purchase something I have not.
Extremely important, especially for a dog whose been on antibiotics. The benefits of of the 11 strains of good bacteria help with digestion and improve the immune system as well. Read more at Probiotics for dogs.
Is virtually a superfood. One of the most complete foods on the planet, it is full of healing nutrition. Please read more at Benefits of Spirulina.
Enzymes do far more than help absorb nutrients. Sorry I haven't written about them yet!
Silver
Shield is really for medicinal value and not a dog health supplement. I list it
here because it's awesome and the best colloidal silver on the market
(and patented) I’ve
cured everything from my own ear infection (in 36 hours) to canine lyme disease. And there are absolutely no side effects like those of antibiotics. Tops my list of home remedies.
Fish oils are generally viewed as a good source of Omega-3 fats and they are a good dog health supplement. The problem with using fish oil is that 80,000 pounds of mercury is dumped into the oceans every year and nearly all fish are contaminated.
If you choose to give your dog a fish oil supplement, be sure that it’s been laboratory tested and shown not to contain mercury and other toxins.

Note: There are lots
of dog health supplements on the market but there are no rules or regulations as to
quality and strength.
Here's how I learned early on there is a vast difference out there.
Needing some supplements for myself when I moved to a new state, I visited a GNC store. I thought I was going to save lots of money. They were having a 2 for 1 sale. But when I looked at the strength, I would have had to take 3-4 capsules of each versus the one capsule of the products I had previously purchased. And there was no testing indicated on the product labels.
Needless to say, I didn’t buy anything. Not only did it turn out to be more expensive, I didn’t know the quality of the products and I sure didn’t want to take 16 capsules of anything in one day. Yuck.
If you are working with a holistic practioner and know what dog health supplements your dog needs, here are good choices by body system.
If not, please do not waste your money without help from a dog health care coach. Use the above choices instead for six to eight weeks and then contact me with any specific questions.
