You may consider tail docking, ear cropping and removing dew claws as dog plastic surgery.
Do these surgeries contribute to dog health and longevity or are they selfish choices on our part?
What about the esthetics? Do you think this dog is beautiful with cropped ears? Does it give him a more regal appearance or do you see it as butchery?
There seems to be quite a controversy over the procedures I'm going to talk about here.
And of course I have an opinion too. I like both so let's talk about the pros and cons of dog plastic surgery. Including dog health.
Then perhaps we can agree to disagree.
While it comes down to the personal choice of the dog owner, there are some things to consider. The following is a summary with a link to a page on each topic.
First we have dog ear cropping which creates better circulation for the inner ear. I think many breeds look more majestic and intelligent with cropped ears. However, if you use acupuncture or acupressure, how do you make up for the missing parts? Are there any dangers in this procedure?
As for dog tail docking, what is it's purpose? Is it really esthetically pleasing or are we just used to seeing it in some breeds? Here are some pros and cons besides it being harder for a dog to play chase with his tail and win when he spins circles.
And we have dewclaw removal. Do we help our dog's comfort by removing these digits or just pad the veterinarian's pocket? Now this procedure ticks me off and I'll tell you why.
Although not done for health or aesthetic reasons, what about dog debarking
surgery? All things considered, is it kind, cruel, or just plain lazy and selfish on our part?

And one last plastic surgery option. Did you know that a male
dog can reclaim his manhood by getting testicle implants? They're
called neuticles. It's possible that most women think its silly while men do not. Here's why it's an emotionally charged issue.
Now, what will people think of next?
