Dog food nutrition advice is handed out like candy at Halloween but what is everyone missing? This Dog Talk Tuesday, nutrition is on the menu with it's important sidekick assimilation.
Look, your dog's food is the most critical component of your dog's health for his or her entire life so it's the most important decision you make. Make your choice wisely.
After all no body can be healthy without nutrition. We know that, but what is nutrition really? And what does assimilation have to do with it?
Don't Sandra and I look like we're ready for a nap? I blame it on YouTube's lack of choices. Hrmph
Let's define dog food nutrition once more. The dictionary says: The process of nourishing or being nourished, especially the process by which a living organism assimilates food and uses it for growth and tissue replacement. Sounds like digestion doesn't it?
We all have the basic idea of what digestion is. Digesting is breaking down food so it then can be assimilated by the body. And to assimilate means to consume and incorporate into the body. It transforms food into living tissue.
Listening to Sandra, we know that giving isolated vitamins and minerals doesn't mean the body can assimilate them so . . .
Is there a commercial food that provides all the real needs for a dog to be healthy? Does changing kibble from time to time, change the minerals offered to our pups?
What kind of information is important (actually imperative) to know if you feed kibble or canned food?
Well, there's what it's made of; how it's made; what's added to it and WHY; what's on the label and what it means; what is the AAFCO and how they do what they do? And last but not least is what they DON'T put on the bag, or in the bag as the case may be.
And perhaps the most important thing to know is the actual history of dog food. I know no one talks about that but it's about time and I am happy to be the first! After a fascinating study I made of the entire system from the first ever commercial dog food, this is awesome stuff to share.
I'll share it with you and you can share it wherever you go.
I've done my very best to unearth what insiders know and you don't.
