Homemade Ear Mite Medicine

Some of the most common dog health problems involve the ears. Here is a free recipe for ear mite medicine that will often cure a canine ear infection too.

My secret ingredient for this recipe is also a supplement and part of natural dog care. What is it?

Garlic! I'm serious. After decades of use, it seems to have been forgotten. This natural bacteria killer and antifungal agent is one of the most underrated foods, herbs and medicines I know of.

Garlic also helps keep the intestinal tract inhospitable for worms.

Without much further ado, here is the recipe. I always keep some in a dark glass bottle with an eyedropper. Why? This one works great for some human ailments too. It was great for swimmer's ear when my kids were little and you can even put in on a skin scrape to kill germs and aid the healing process.

  • 3 cloves garlic, crushed
  • 3 Tablespoons olive oil
  • In a non-coated pan, simmer the garlic and olive oil for ten minutes. (High temperature cooks the value out of it). Strain out the garlic and put in small bottle with eyedropper.

Dosage: 1/2 to 1 dropper-full massaged into each ear twice a day.

If your cat is sharing ear mites with your dog, this ear mite medicine works for cats as well. Store it in a cool dark place, or the refrigerator to keep fresh since a few doses should be all it takes to get rid of the mites.

Why does it work? The olive oil tends to suffocate the tiny little mites and the garlic makes the area inhospitable to these tiny creatures plus the combination helps heal the skin that your pet has been scratching.

A word of caution: This medicine makes you crave Italian food, especially garlic bread (-:

Note: If your dog suffers from dog yeast ear infections, that is entirely different, but it does have a recipe! Please go to Dog Yeast Ear Infection.
