What is body cleansing and what's the point? One of the most important and free things you can do for your dog is simple and easy to understand.
There are different levels of body cleansing but let's look at the why first.
See all the organs inside the dog in the picture? Well they get gunky just like your house.
You do clean your house don't you? Of course.
And you know there's more than dust and dirt. Sometimes you find sticky, gooey, smelly things from spills you didn't see when they happened.
And every once in a while you find something gross and moldy.
Now you don't leave that stuff to keep growing and stinking even though you don't want to touch it right?
Well think of body cleansing like that. You're going to clean your dog's very personal house because things you cannot see build up in there too.
Our sweet dogs accumulate toxins like we do, but, they get even more.
They're smaller, closer to the ground and because of their very nature.
After all, dogs sniff, snort and lick all sorts of things. Often they pick things up just from licking their feet.
Here's a list of things you may not have thought about:
Outside: Lawn fertilizers, weed killers and pre-emergents.
In the Garage: Paints, solvents, cleaners and anything used for your car.
Inside: Every cleaning product you use! If it's not green, it's not clean and they add up! Have you ever read the ingredients in air fresheners or home deodorizers? Even if no one touches them, they still breathe them in through the air and that's not a good thing. Who wants to eat perfume? Not I.
Note: Here's a little plug for me - I'd much rather use NSP Essential oils to make the house smell good. Some kill bacteria too. Plus I can choose things that calm everyone in the house naturally.
The simplest method of body cleansing is to fast your dog for 24 to 48 hours a few times a month.
How can not feeding your dog do that? Look at the picture again and pretend there are bits and pieces of gunk in there. Then picture running only water through the body. It's like flushing a toilet. Lets the body get rid of things it's been storing.
Plus without putting all that work into digesting food, the immune system can do some self repair.
I'll go into more detail on my fasting page but in the meantime...
Switch to green products wherever you can to limit your dog's exposure to toxins. He's not the only one getting them. You are too.
Once you get used to it, you'll see how awful that stuff is. I swear I hold my breath if I have to walk down the cleaning supply isle at the grocery store and wonder how I ever used those products.
And while that marketing used to fool me that I'd be saving time, it simply isn't true. Here's an example. I have an older oven yet I haven't used oven cleaner in years. For me it works faster and better to put hot wet rags in the bottom of the oven for several minutes and then simply scrape all the gunk off with a single edged razor blade in a 39 cent holder. Fast, economical and good for the environment.
Sometimes a dog needs a cleanse for a specific purpose which after a fast can be done with specific herbs so the body can detox. I help people do this regularly with their dogs.
I've been doing this on a case by case basis for some years now and I've decided to share it with you. Keep in mind cleansing too fast can be harmful if not monitored or given just the right amount for the size and age of the dog. I can still help with that part.
I've written pages on a few specific body cleansing protocols and likely all you'll ever need.

A cleanse I have helped many people with to cure their dogs from skin and ear problems is called The Candida Cleanse.
I also think a parasite cleanse done on a yearly basis is a great idea and I'd like you to know the difference between killing parasites and cleansing so check out Dog Parasite Cleanse.
Now that it's believed that 50% of all dogs will die of cancer, how about periodically cleansing to rid the body of chemical pathogens? Good idea. You can find this one at The Best Cleanse for Environmental Toxins.
And lastly, now that we know the dangers of vaccines because of the heavy metals used in them many people agree with Dr. Roger Pitcairn's statement made several years ago. He said 80% of all illnesses our pets are taken to the vet for are a direct result from vaccines.

In closing I simply want to mention that no matter what vitamins, or dog supplements you give your canine, they aren't going to do nearly as much good if his 'house' is a mess.
It would be like spraying air freshener on dog vomit and expecting not to have to clean it up.
